Longitudinal Mixture Modeling Research Laboratory
ABOUT
Welcome to the Longitudinal Mixture Modeling Research Lab (LMMRL), where we’re pushing the boundaries of mixture modeling research with a focus on Latent Transition Analysis (LTA) and its applications. Our mission is to delve into the current practices of researchers employing LTA and related techniques, enhancing the understanding and application of these sophisticated statistical methods in diverse fields.

Our Research Journey
Founded in July 2021 by Delwin Carter, LMMRL has embarked on an ambitious journey to systematically review over 460 peer-reviewed articles, aiming to illuminate the practices in class enumeration, fit index utilization, estimation methods, handling of missing data, and the software tools at the forefront of this research domain. Our work is not just about understanding; it’s about setting new standards in the field.
Collaborative Endeavors
We pride ourselves on our collaborative spirit, actively partnering with esteemed groups like the Psychometrics, Research, and Evaluation Promoting Adaptation, Resilience, and Education (PREPARE) Lab at CSUN, where our students have contributed to groundbreaking research. This collaboration has enriched our work, providing a platform for our members to engage in interdisciplinary studies, particularly in areas like chemistry and physics education through our partnership with Mixture Modeling for Discipline-Based Researchers at UCSB.

Student Success & Beyond
Our lab isn’t just a research hub; it’s a launchpad for future leaders. Many of our students have successfully transitioned into their first-choice graduate programs, including prestigious institutions like The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and Berkeley’s Wright Institute. Others have ventured into industry, securing research positions at major corporations, showcasing the practical impact of our training.
Empowering the Next Generation
At LMMRL, we’re committed to empowering our students through advanced training in mixture modeling techniques such as latent class analysis, latent profile analysis, and LTA. We’ve trained over 12 students, enhancing their statistical expertise and preparing them for sophisticated research challenges. Our mentorship extends beyond academia, guiding gap year students through employment searches and graduate school applications, ensuring they’re well-equipped for their next steps.
Looking Forward
As we continue our research, our students are actively engaging with the academic community, with several preparing poster presentations for upcoming conferences, further demonstrating the quality and relevance of our work. While we await feedback, the anticipation builds for showcasing our findings.
LMMRL is more than a lab; it’s a community of passionate researchers dedicated to innovation in statistical modeling. We invite you to explore our journey, our achievements, and the exciting future we’re crafting together. Stay tuned for updates on our research, student achievements, and upcoming publications.
