Meta-Analysis Research

About Meta-Analysis Research

Meta-analysis research within the MIX Institute examines how mixture and longitudinal models are implemented across applied research in the behavioral and social sciences.

These projects focus on identifying methodological patterns in the use of latent variable models such as latent class analysis (LCA), latent profile analysis (LPA), and latent transition analysis (LTA). By systematically reviewing and coding published research articles, the Institute develops structured datasets that allow researchers to examine trends in modeling practices across the scientific literature.

Through this work, the research program supports methodological research examining how statistical models are applied in empirical studies and how analytic decisions influence the interpretation of results.

Research Activities

Meta-analysis projects examine how statistical models are implemented in applied research by systematically reviewing and coding published studies

Article Identification

Research assistants identify relevant research articles from peer-reviewed journals that apply mixture or longitudinal modeling methods.

Methodological Coding

Published studies are coded to extract methodological information, including model type, estimation decisions, and analytic procedures.

Research Dataset Construction

Information extracted from articles is organized into structured datasets that allow methodological patterns to be analyzed across studies.

STUDENT RESEARCH ROLES

Student Participation in Research

Literature Coding

Students code published research articles and extract methodological details.

Methodological Documentation

Research assistants document model specifications and analytic procedures used in applied studies.

Research Databases

Students help maintain structured article databases that support literature synthesis projects.

Coding Quality Assurance

Research assistants participate in reliability checks to ensure consistent coding across studies.

RESEARCH OUTPUTS

Research Infrastructure & Outputs

Meta-analysis research within the MIX Institute focuses on building structured coding systems, article datasets, and research infrastructure that support methodological synthesis.

These resources support ongoing literature synthesis and methodological research by organizing large collections of published studies into structured coding systems and datasets.

  • coded article databases

  • article tracking systems

  • methodological coding frameworks

  • summary documentation for ongoing literature synthesis
